Introducing our new Wander + Wild Recycled Kids Rain Jackets… aka a little piece of our hearts. This sure has been a long journey bringing our vision to reality for these rain jackets, but we did it and we couldn’t be prouder of the end result!
We understand first-hand how quickly the weather can change when we’ve been wandering the wild with our little ones and had a vision to design a unisex rain jacket that could be worn and adored for all seasons, lovingly passed on when it is outgrown and is kind to the environment.
When designing these jackets, we had a big list of boxes that we wanted our jackets to tick but the main three were;
➕ they had to be soft and comfortable
➕ fully lined but also light to always fit in your bag and be able to be worn all seasons
➕ to make them as sustainable as possible
Sustainability is so important to us and is a huge focus when developing our products, and honestly in the world of product development, it is very hard to achieve. It took us a really long time to find a manufacturer that would help us bring our vision to life - a rain jacket made predominantly out of recycled single-use plastic bottles but we did it – we persisted and found an incredible company and manufacturer who was willing to listen and help us.
With over 1 million plastic bottles purchased every MINUTE around the world, we want to help reduce waste in landfill and in our oceans by turning it into 100% waterproof and windproof fabric. We were even able to liaise with our manufacturer and beg them not to send all of the jackets individually wrapped in plastic – which they normally are. We’re so proud to say we were successful with negotiating on this and have definitely saved a few more animals and oceans along the way!
We are conscious about fast fashion pollution and wanted to ensure our jackets are made to last. Apart from our toddler sizes (1 and 2), all of our jackets are designed to last longer by fitting two size ranges. As well as this, our custom created Little Explorer name label inside has room for multiple hand-me-downs. We are proud to say that our rain jackets are certified with the Global Recycled Standard 4.0 who’s aim is to support companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products and textiles as well as being responsible for the social, environmental and chemical practices in the production of these products and textiles.
With a minimal, classic aesthetic, our rain jackets are made of a supremely soft outer fabric that has been developed using single-use plastic bottles which in turn, help to reduce the amount of waste in landfill and in our oceans. We launched our rain jackets in two colours – ‘Sand’ which is a light beige colour and ‘Olive’ which is a foresty green colour, both available in sizes 1-10 years AU. Each of our unisex, earth-inspired colourways include a ‘soft as butter’ brown cotton lining throughout the whole inside of the jacket. They are comfortable, have a detachable hood and deep pockets for warming cool hands or collecting foraged treasures. Our jackets are secured with a sturdy zip, velcro fasteners and snap button closures ensuring your little ones stay dry on the inside. We have plans to design and release more colourways in the near future.
Made from recycled single-use plastic bottles, our eco-conscious children’s rain jackets are a must-have item in every little explorer’s wardrobe. If you’ve already purchased one, thank you for choosing this recycled garment and for helping to respect and protect our precious planet!

Earth is so precious. It is our home, our family, our friend, our life source.
It is an incredible planet that is also home to the most amazing animals, beaches, mountains, plants, forests and so much more. BUT – it needs our help to care for it more consciously.
